How should we understand the desire for signs and wonders? Is this something we should cater to? In the morning sermon, we continue in Matthew 12 to consider Jesus’ response to the unbelief of the Jews. Jesus denounces the request for a sign as one that comes from an “evil and adulterous generation” (v. 29). He pronounces the only sign that will be given to such a generation. We need to consider this “sign of Jonah” and how it is the great sign that all preaching is based on today. There is great encouragement as we consider this sign and the effect it will have on the world.
The Sign of Jonah
1. The unbelieving request.
2. The sign given.
3. The greatness of this sign.
4. The implications and encouragements for our faith.
