The King Has Come to His Temple

We begin a new section in Matthew as Jesus enters Jerusalem. We will be combining two significant events as Matthew’s gospel places them together. We have the “Triumphal Entry” and the “Cleansing of the Temple.” These are joined together as we see the king and his work presented. Our king did not come to the palace to take an earthly throne. He came to his temple to cleanse it. These events are symbolic. Jesus’ cleansing of his temple took place on the cross. We will consider the encouragement this is for our faith today. The passage is Matthew 21:1-17.

We will consider these four points:
1. His triumphal entry.
2. His great work.
3. The two-fold response he received.
4. The response of his redeemed people today.
