Paul continues to proclaim his thesis that the gospel is “the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.” (Romans 1:16) Paul now demonstrates how the Old Testament foretold that the New Israel would be made up of Jews and Gentiles together. We are reminded not to divorce the teaching on the absolute sovereignty of God in salvation and the biblical doctrine of election and reprobation from the gospel message. The message is entitled The Israel of God. We will consider these four points:
- The prophets foretold the stumbling of Israel.
- How has Israel stumbled? (The manner of their stumbling)
- The stone of stumbling has become the cornerstone.
- Application to us.
