We will look at the ministry of John the Baptist and consider where he fits in the history of redemption and how his baptism relates to the work of Christ. Many people misunderstand John’s baptism and what biblical repentance is. Matthew tells us that John’s ministry is Isaiah 40:1-5 being fulfilled. We will consider Biblical repentance and how Jesus brings the judgment promised in Malachi 3:1-5. Jesus will bring both cleansing and judgment. We must trust in this king who was coming into the world and show it by bearing fruit in keeping with repentance. No outward and cultural Christianity will stand the day, only a life of repentance that flows from true faith in Christ. Jesus will accomplish all of God’s purposes for both salvation and judgment through his death and resurrection.
