Last week we considered the duties of covenant nurture as Paul speaks of them in Ephesians 6:4. I want to follow up that sermon with a topical sermon on nurture and discipline. We need to understand what those words mean. We also need to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus as the perfect example of these things. The Lord our God will lead all believers in a pathway similar to his beloved son. But we need to understand what Jesus suffered on the cross was not discipline but justice. He suffered in the place of believers. Now we begin with faith and learn to receive the Lord’s discipline, which is good. We will consider the implications of this for all of us and especially for covenant nurture.
