We continue in the story of Abraham. We come to Genesis 21 and the fulfillment of God’s promise of a son. This passage describes two responses to this promised child. We will consider how Paul applies this story to the New Testament church in Galatians 4.
We will consider these four points;
1. The laughter of Sarah (which believers share).
2. The scorn of Ishmael (which is the scorn of the natural man towards the gospel).
3. The fulfillment in Christ (As Paul presents it in Gal 4),
4. God’s goodness, which is intended to lead us to repentance (as it is displayed in his dealings with Hagar and Ishmael).
We will see, once again, that ultimately there are only two peoples and two responses to Christ.
