Having looked at the book as a whole last week, we begin with the story of Jonah and his futile attempt to run away from the Lord. Remember, Jonah is both a representative of Israel as well as a foreshadow of Christ to come. We will consider why he makes this futile attempt to flee from the presence of the Lord, how the Lord works to reveal his own power and glory, and how Jonah is rebuked for his actions. And we will ask, how is this passage a rebuke of Israel as a nation? We will also consider the message for the church today as an encouragement for our faith and a challenge for us.
