Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath

We continue in the book of Matthew. In the previous passage, Jesus gave an invitation for sinners to come to him and find rest. Here in Matthew 12:1-14, we will see how Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath. He brings that rest that we need. Jesus and the Pharisees clashed over the Sabbath more than any other issue. That is because they did not understand the saving grace of Christ. Jesus came not to abolish the Sabbath but to fulfill it and to bring salvation and rest for sinners who trust in him.
1. Jesus’ defense against the Pharisees’ accusations. (vv. 1-5)
2. Jesus’ declarations concerning himself. (vv. 6-8)
3. Jesus’ healing work that fulfills the Sabbath. (vv. 9-14)
