We continue with the third plague of Egypt. This plague is a mysterious plague.
We begin a new section in Matthew as Jesus enters Jerusalem. We will be combining two significant events as Matthew’s gospel places them together. We have the “Triumphal Entry” and the “Cleansing of the Temple.”
We will look at the second plague, which is Frogs. We will see how this plague continues God’s judgment on Egypt’s idolatry.
This is the end of the second section of Matthew’s gospel. The next section introduces Jesus’ passion and ministry in Jerusalem. Here we see what it means that Jesus is the “Son of David.”
We will look at the first of the ten plaques on Egypt and consider the lesson of this plague; how it is a judgment on Egypt, how it foreshadows the final judgment, how it proclaims and reveals the glory of the Lord along with his power to save.
As Jesus and the disciples approach Jerusalem, the disciples still have much to learn about the cross and what it means for us as disciples.
In the evening message, we see the beginning of God’s confrontation of Pharaoh.
This week, we will be considering the parable of the “Laborers in the Vineyard” in Matthew 20:1-16.
